114 MPs to head to Istana Negara tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 114 members of parliament are expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow in five batches.

In a document sighted by the New Straits Times titled "The attendance of members of parliament to Istana Negara", it was stated that the first round of MPs will be present at 10am.

The first batch in the morning would involve all 18 MPs from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as well as six Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) MPs.

For the second batch which will begin at 11.10am, according to the document, 12 Bersatu MPs, led by caretaker Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, three independents and 10 Umno MPs are expected to be present.

The third batch is expected to begin at 2pm, involving 12 Umno MPs and 13 Bersatu MPs while the next meeting at 3.10pm would consist of 15 Umno MPs, two from MCA and one each from MIC, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star).

The final batch meeting with the king is scheduled to start at 4.20pm which will consist of all 18 Pas MPs, including its president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

The document, which listed the names of all 114 MPs, came amidst the guessing game on who has the majority to form the next government.

So far, MPs who are seen as the potential next prime minister include opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri and Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal.

With Ismail Sabri's name being part of the document involving 114 MPs, this has led to speculation that the Bera MP might be the next prime minister should the Yang di-Pertuan Agong feel satisfied with a simple majority of three.

On Monday, Muhyiddin tendered his resignation along with his cabinet to the king and he was later appointed as caretaker prime minister.
