Party Warisan Sabah denies 15 assemblymen had quit party

KOTA KINABALU: Party Warisan Sabah (Warisan) has denied that 15 of its state assemblymen had quit the party and had thrown in their support for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah.

Darau state assemblyman Azhar Matussin commenting on a report by a portal on the matter described it as baseless.

"The 15 Warisan Assemblymen implied in the report are standing firm with their principle to serve the people as to how the mandate was given to them during the 16th state election.

"I, along with other friends, will uphold the principles and remain loyal to the leadership of party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal," he said in a statement.

Azhar, who is also Warisan supreme council member, said that he was confident that other assemblymen would focus on helping people affected by Covid-19 and give their best services for their constituents.

As for Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob who was reported to quit the party to become an independent, Azhar said the former had sat together with others a few days ago to discuss Warisan's direction.

It was reported that Dr Yusof, who is also the Warisan Information Chief, quit the party last night for being disappointed with Warisan "losing direction", a party he joined since its inception in 2016.

"During the meeting, there was no mention that he (Dr Yusof) would leave the party as reported in an online portal last night."

Azhar described Dr Yusof as a mature politician, who would give advice and share his experience with others.
