Amanah to contest 8 to 10 seats in Melaka state election

IPOH: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is expected to contest at least eight to 10 seats in the Melaka state election next month.

Amanah Election director, Datuk Asmuni Awi said the number of seats the party plans to contest this time has increased as compared to the six seats it contested in the 14th General Election.

Melaka has 28 seats in its state assembly.

Asmuni said that Amanah's election machinery would be moved to some of the focus areas which will be contested by the party in the state election.

"We have made early preparations by activating the election machinery, especially at state-level.

"I went to Melaka after the dissolution of the state assembly to see the preparations and provide guidance to the state election machinery.

"Praise to Allah, our preparations are in 'top gear'. God willing, after this, the national operations machinery will go down to Melaka to ensure everything runs smoothly," he said.

Asmuni, who is Perak Amanah chairman and Manjoi assemblyman said this during a press conference at the Taman Meru Food Court here today.

The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on Oct 4, paving the way for a state election that had to be called within 60 days.

The state assembly's dissolution followed a move by four assemblymen – Datuk Seri Idris Haron (Sungai Udang), Datuk Nor Azman Hassan (Pantai Kundor), Datuk Norhizam Hassan Baktee (Pengkalan Batu) and Datuk Noor Effandi Ahmad (Telok Mas) who declared a loss of confidence and withdrew their support for Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali's leadership.

The Election Comission has set the 15th Melaka state election to be held on Nov 20; with nomination on Nov 8 and early voting on Nov 16.
