PKR Youth wants Azam Baki to step down

PUTRAJAYA: A group of PKR Youth members staged a peaceful protest urging Tan Sri Azam Baki to step down as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner.

The group who included Batu member of parliament P. Prabakaran moved in a convoy of 10 vehicles starting from Dataran Putrajaya before ending their journey in front of the MACC headquarters.

The group later submitted a memorandum to Azam, who is facing calls for a probe to be launched against him following his admission that his younger brother had used his securities account to acquire shares in several companies.

PKR Youth chief Akmal Nasir said the memorandum accompanied with 13 protest card with words "Under Azam Baki" written on it reflected to the sentiment of the people over the issue.

"This (the memorandum) is important to defend the integrity and save the position of the commission.

"The movement will continue put pressure on the government to remove and ask Azam to go on leave under investigation on his case have concluded," he said.

Akmal also called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to delegate his powers and place the MACC directly under the Parliament.

"The MACC chief commissioner was appointed to the position by the Prime Minister and not the Parliament.

"Therefore, the Prime Minister should transfer his powers to the Parliament," he said.

Akmal also commented the statement by Ismail Sabri that the latter would not interfere with the investigation over Azam's case.

"This shows that the prime minister read the reports over the case but did not show his interest or cooperation to take action over the matter," he said.
