Pas says no need to rush GE15

KOTA BARU: Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah believes there is no need to rush the 15th General Election (GE15).

Instead, he said, time should be given to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to prove his mettle.

Amar said the party backed the prime minister and that it was prepared for the dissolution of Parliament.

"If you ask us (Pas), our view is that it is better for the term to be completed because Ismail Sabri just became the prime minister and there are many things he needs to implement.

"If we hold GE15 now, the people will not be able to see the effects (of the proposed changes). I feel that it is better to give the prime minister a chance to prove himself first. There's no need to rush."

He said this yesterday when he was asked to comment on the calls by some political leaders for GE15 to be expedited.

He said the calls for Parliament to be dissolved and general election to be held were "not a problem" as the decision ultimately lay with the prime minister and the cabinet.

"If other people want to pressure, that's up to them. But we remain with the PM. If the PM says, 'Dissolve Parliament', then do it. The reverse also applies.

"That (dissolving of Parliament) is the PM's and cabinet's privilege. They make the decision.

"We just offer our views. If the PM doesn't dissolve Parliament, let it stay that way."

Amar, who is deputy Kelantan menteri besar, earlier officiated at the Kelantan-Japan Festival 2022 in Tunjong here.

Present were Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Takahashi Katsuhiko and Kelantan Community Unity, Culture, Heritage and Tourism committee chairman Major (Rtd) Datuk Md Anizam Ab Rahman.
