More in the line of fire after Tajuddin's sacking

KUALA LUMPUR: The sacking of Umno Supreme Council (MKT) members before the end of their tenure will only lead to a crisis and disunity in the Barisan Nasional (BN) backbone party.

Former BN secretary-general and Ketereh Umno division chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said such an action also contradicted the spirit and resolution adopted at the Umno General Assembly and the party's extraordinary general assembly.

"Although there is a provision for the president to sack appointed MKT members, the action does no good. Infact, it is a rare move to take for the Umno President.

"Under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (a former Umno president), there were ministers, deputy ministers and MKT members who openly opposed him, but no one was dropped for not supporting the president," he said in a Facebook post.

But this time around, Annuar, who is the Communications and Multimedia Minister, said there had been one sacking after another taking place.

He said it is understood that there are still some names seen as political enemies who might soon get sacked.

However, Annuar did not name the party leaders who are likely to be dropped from the party's highest policymaking body.

On Thursday, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan confirmed that Pasir Salak member of parliament Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman was dropped from the MKT in a letter dated June 21.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi explained that Tajuddin's attitude and stance on the party was the reason why he was sacked.

The MKT comprises a membership of 35 of which 23 are elected and 12 are appointed. Among the appointed members are Penang Umno Wanita Chief, Norliza Abdul Rahim; Paya Rumput state assemblyman Datuk Rais Mohd Yassin; Puteri Umno Deputy Chief Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi; Johor State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi; Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Mohamad; Senator Datuk Arman Azha Abu Hanifah; and, Juasseh State Assemblyman Datuk ismail Lasim.
