KUALA LUMPUR: Umno veteran Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said the revelation by Pasir Salak Member of Parliament, Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, has 'hurt' the dominant Malay party.
He said the 'wounds' needed to be 'treated' immediately to ensure Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) had ample time to prepare for the 15th General Election (GE15).
He said in order to heal, everyone in Umno must work together to resolve problems arising within the Barisan Nasional component member.
"The exposure caused a wound, and the wound had to be treated.
"The disciplinary board should call Tajuddin and see what (else) he reveals. That is the best (solution) for Umno now (in order) to face the election.
"Therefore, we must work together not only in word but in heart and deed. This cooperation is sincere. The healing of the wound must be completed," he said.
Shahidan, who is the Arau Member of Parliament, said this after opening the Kuala Lumpur Selayang Daily Market and Jalan Ipoh Viaduct here today.
He was commenting on Tajuddin's recent revelation, which confirmed that there was division and instability in Umno despite some leaders dismissing it.
Apart from criticising the leadership of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Umno president, Tajuddin also revealed the existence of an Umno MP faction supporting PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the next Prime Ministerial candidate.
Tajuddin was critical of the party after being dropped as an Umno Supreme Council (MKT) member.
Commenting on a viral new party leadership line-up led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as president, Shahidan said he has no problem if anyone wanted to appoint him as the new party vice-president.
"This is good. If people want to promote (me), to be vice president, it will definitely be fun.
"However, the most important thing for me is that Umno, which had been given the trust by the people, to work towards resolving the crisis," he said.
