MCA to Perikatan: Bring it on

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is not intimidated by Perikatan Nasional's (PN) move to announce Barisan Nasional (BN) as its main enemy in the 15th General Election (GE15).

MCA Secretary-General Datuk Chong Sin Woon said MCA and BN have been preparing for a long time to face any quarters in GE15.

"BN and MCA have long foreseen that we will face two-cornered attacks from PN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the upcoming general election.

"Our grassroots party members, organisational strength and campaign machineries are ready to face attacks from any opponent," he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, PN Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) sixth anniversary celebration reminded party members and allies that BN is the coalition's main enemy.

Chong said it is regrettable and even puzzling that Muhyiddin had suddenly declared war on BN.

He said that the timing could not be more unreasonable as the government is pushing for economic recovery following the reopening of the country's borders.

"In any case, MCA and BN will not be intimidated by the challenge hurled by PN. Our preparations have long been underway to face any party or political camp.

He said as early as the Melaka and Johor state elections, the relationship between BN and PN was that of confrontation and competition.

"Holding no fears confronting challenges from both PN and Pakatan Harapan in both the state elections, Barisan Nasional succeeded in winning the voters' mandate," he said.
