Tuan Ibrahim's 'last-minute penalty' remark sparks speculation on Parliament dissolution

KUALA LUMPUR: Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man sparked speculation on the dissolution of Parliament today after he described the support from parliamentarians for an amendment bill as a "last-minute penalty".

Tuan Ibrahim (Pas-Kubang Kerian) said this during his winding-up speech on the Environmental Quality (Amendment) Bill 2022 at the Dewan Rakyat today.

"I, on behalf of the ministry, want to thank all members of parliament for supporting the amendment. It is like a last-minute penalty before Parliament is dissolved."

This prompted R.S.N. Rayer (PH-Jelutong) to ask Tuan Ibrahim whether he was confirming that Parliament would be dissolved on Friday — the day the 2023 Budget will be tabled.

In response, Tuan Ibrahim smiled and said: "(The question is) not related to the amendment."
