S'gor MB's audience with Sultan on Tuesday was not on dissolution, says aide

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari's audience with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on Tuesday was not to discuss the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

Amirudin's political secretary Juwairiya Zulkifli said the issue of the state legislative assembly being dissolved or otherwise did not arise.

Juwairiya said it was a weekly scheduled audience where Amirudin had briefed Sultan Sharafuddin on the developments of the state.

The weekly audience coincidentally occurred after Parliament's dissolution and was about the state's plans to proceed with the current administration, including the tabling of the 2023 Budget and carrying on with its coming state assembly sitting.

She said Sultan Sharafuddin acknowledged the state's plans to continue its duties as usual.

"The audience was not purely to request the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

"The statement issued by the menteri besar after the audience was clear. It was to give an update on the state's development, and it was not on the dissolution of the state legislative assembly.

"The people or the media had misinterpreted the statement, perhaps because the news of dissolution was much-awaited.

"There is no dispute or misunderstanding between the menteri besar and Selangor palace. Only outsiders had misinterpreted it. And maybe that was why the palace issued a statement yesterday," Juwairiya told the New Straits Times today.

Yesterday, the palace said several news reports on Selangor not dissolving its state legislative assembly this year were inaccurate.

Sultan Sharafuddin's private secretary Datuk Muhamad Munir Bani had said the request was not made by Amirudin during the audience on Oct 11.

He had said Amirudin did not make a request to Sultan Sharafuddin to dissolve the state legislative assembly this year and wished to continue with the state government's administration.

"The Sultan of Selangor took note of the position and hoped that the planned state development agenda would continue in the interests of the people," Munir had said in a Facebook post on the Selangor Royal Office page.
