Helping people, greater economic recovery to be PN's focus if coalition forms next federal government

TASEK GELUGOR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will focus on how best to help the people if the coalition comes into power after the 15th general election (GE15).

PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said this would be the coalition's chief priority, with experienced leaders to spearhead the country to greater economic recovery.

Muhyiddin, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president, said he was aware of the many hardships now because of the inflation and rising prices of goods and insufficient income.

He said the poverty rate among the people had increased, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, which has now exceeded 40 per cent compared to previously.

"This is why, on the day when we (PN) form the federal government, the first thing we will discuss is how to help the people.

"What help can we render, where to get the money, further to reviving the economy and helping businesses.

"We (PN) have the experience," he said in his speech during the Jelajah Prihatin in Tasek Gelugor here last night.

Muhyiddin said despite being a relatively new coalition, PN had the experience in government administration and could solve the issues plaguing the people, especially in terms of economy.

Muhyiddin said PN would also offer a federal government, free and clean from any corrupt practices if elected in by the people in GE15.

He also reiterated that the decision of the 12 PN ministers to send a letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, requesting consideration that Parliament not be dissolved, was not because of fear of facing GE15.

On the contrary, he explained, the decision was made in consideration of the plight of the people, who might face difficulties as a major flood disaster was predicted during the monsoon season.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said Barisan Nasional's (BN) insistence on holding GE15 was possibly a result of its leaders facing corruption charges in court.

"They feel they can be saved if the party recaptures the federal government.

"We want the people to fulfill their responsibilities by fully using their rights as voters, so that most of the people decide, if possible 100 per cent (turn out of vote) so that a truly clean government can be formed in GE15," he said.
