KANGAR: Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari is prepared to face Datuk Seri Mohd Azmin Ali for the Gombak parliamentary showdown in the 15th General Election (GE15).
However, the PKR vice-president said it was up to the party leadership to decide who would be fielded to wrest the seat from Azmin.
Azmin, who was also former PKR deputy president, had held the seat for three terms under the party's ticket before he left PKR.
"We will have to wait for the official announcement (today). I don't have the authority to announce it but there are also requests from the party machinery and friends for me to contest the Gombak parliamentary seat.
"InsyaAllah, if get selected (to be fielded as the candidate), we will do our best to ensure that Gombak parliamentary seat will remain as PKR seat," he told reporters after attending a gathering with Kangar PKR election machinery in conjunction with state-level Mega Harapan Tour here yesterday.
Amirudin, who is also the Sungai Tua State Legislative Assembly (DUN) assemblyman, said he was open to the party's decision.
"As a loyal party member, I will abide by the party decision," he said.
On rumours that Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice president Datuk Husam Musa was eyeing Gombak seat, Amirudin said the constituency has been PKR's traditional seat since 2008.
"Since 2008, it has been a traditional PKR seat although Pas had contested the seat in 1999 and 2004 where Datuk Dr Hatta Ramli had contested and lost the seat in both general elections.
"To date, we (PKR) have managed to maintain excellent results as our voters are loyal to PKR and we will make sure our machinery will work hard to gain the trust of the voters in Gombak," he said.
On Wednesday, Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hinted that PKR would be fielding Amirudin as candidate for the Gombak parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) on Nov 19.
Azmin, who is also the Senior International Trade and Industry minister, had previously expressed his desire to defend the seat in GE15.
