Bersatu Youth chief: Pas now changed, more matured

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) said Pas has changed and became a more mature party with technocrats and professionals in the cabinet and heads of state governments.

Party Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said denied a claim that Pas was only about the religious leaders.

He said since Pas' inception, its members have comprised of people from various professional backgrounds. He said Pas leaders in the cabinet and those who held the posts of menteris besar have proven that they can perform well.

"Look at the menteris besar in Kedah and Kelantan, and the ministers at federal-level. They have proved they can do their duties.

"These are 'Pak Lebai' who are free from corruption. These are the 'Pak Lebai' who have alleviated the spirit of the Malays and Muslims to defend Islam when the Pakatan Harapan government wanted to ratify the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination ( ICERD )," he said in an interview aired on Astro Awani last night.

Bersatu and Pas are part of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.

When commenting further on Bersatu's cooperation with Pas for the 15th General Election (GE15), Wan Fayhsal said their ties under PN will give an edge to the coalition.

He said both the Malay-based parties complemented each other in PN.

He said as a party which upholds Islam, Pas has a lot to offer voters and the party was known to have a good support base.

"The party has a combination of technocrats and ulama, and this is fascinating."

PN has concluded its seat allocation yesterday with its component parties. The coalition is set to announce its candidates soon ahead of GE15.
