Zuraida insists she's PBM president, not Sng

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is sticking to her guns and insists that she is the rightful president of Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).

Despite the Registrar of Societies (RoS) having announced earlier today that Larry Sng was president, Zuraida believed otherwise.

Zuraida, speaking to reporters at a press conference in Ampang today, also expressed confidence that the tussle over the party presidency will be settled before the 15th General Election's nomination day on Nov 5.

"Seeing that I'm here, I'm president. All issues pertaining to the confusion over the PBM presidency will be settled internally before nomination day.

"Don't worry. It will be resolved internally," she said.

Sng had previously suspended the membership of Zuraida and 12 other supreme council members under the party's constitution for their continued involvement in party affairs, which was deemed a threat to party interests and the leadership.

The internal crisis within PBM further deepened last week when Sng claimed that he was still president, and had never vacated the seat for Zuraida.

However, Haniza Mohamad Talha, who was among those suspended, had argued that Zuraida was elected as president at the party's annual general assembly on Oct 7, and was ratified by the sixth supreme council.

Apart from Zuraida and Hanizah, those suspended included Dr Daroyah Alwi, Rahimah Majid, Dr Sathiskumar Govindaraju, Muhammad Saiful Bahari Sahari, Na'im Brundage, Abdul Aziz Abdul Kadir, Zakaria Abdul Rahim, Muniraa Abu Bakar, Datuk Chua Lian Chye, Datuk Roger Tan Seng Huat and Albakri Salim.

The RoS today told Berita Harian that based on its records, Sng was still the rightful president.
