GTA candidate for Alor Star hopes to develop city

ALOR STAR: Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) candidate for the Alor Star parliamentary seat Datuk Nuhairi Rahmat has vowed to contribute to the city if he wins in the 15th General Election.

He promised that with his 20 years worth of experience, he could elevate Alor Star, where he had been born and raised, to its true potential by empowering its economy.

"I am confident that I will contribute to the society here. I have helped the people here previously with donations but I hope that I can do more by empowering the economy, especially for tourism and agriculture.

"I have seen the work from previous governments here but I am confident that with my experience, I can do more than them," he told reporters at his house in Alor Star here today.

Nuhairi is expected to engage in a five-corner battle against candidates from Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Parti Warisan (Warisan).

However, he said he was confident that his background as a businessman would provide an advantage over other candidates that only have political backgrounds.

"I think my advantage as a businessman is that I know what I can bring to the table.

"What I promised are things that I can do, I've heard many huge promises from (typical) politicians but when they win, they will neglect their duties.

"I am confident I can win the hearts of the voters even in this five-corner battle," he added.

Meanwhile, he shared his vision of advancing Alor Star as a city and turning it into a green city that utilises renewable energy.

"In the long term, I want Alor Star to develop into a city comparable to George Town and Kuala Lumpur.

"At the same time, I envision Alor Star becoming a green city that utilises renewable energy, it already has a good infrastructure, we just need to find a way to attract investors to come in and make this happen.

"I believe that the people from Alor Star are ready to accept new technology and make use of it," he added.
