BN still intact, MCA promises amid objections to Batu candidate for GE15

KUALA LUMPUR: The Batu MCA division has shut down its operations room to protest Barisan Nasional's (BN) decision to field an MIC candidate in the parliamentary constituency for the 15th General Election (GE15).

A short clip showing division members pulling down a BN banner circulated on social media.

This incident a day before nomination day tomorrow has sparked speculation about an internal feud in BN.

However, MCA secretary-general Datuk Choong Sin Won played down the issue, insisting that BN would head to the polls as a united front.

"It is understandable for some grassroots members to react that way, they just need some time to cool down.

"BN is still intact as a team," he told the New Straits Times.

The Batu seat became a point of contention between MCA and MIC after BN named Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay as the candidate for the constituency on Tuesday.

The next day, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said the party would field a candidate in the constituency instead of MIC.

But MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran shot down Wee's claims, insisting that the party will still contest Batu.

Yesterday, BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir reaffirmed that Kohilan was the coalition's candidate for the Batu seat.
