GE15: Dr Dzulkefly, Tengku Zafrul grab spotlight in battle for Kuala Selangor

KUALA SELANGOR: A four-way jostle involving a former minister and a caretaker cabinet representative is underway in Kuala Selangor.

All eyes are on chief contenders -- Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (Pakatan Harapan).

Former health minister Dr Dzulkefly, 66, had postponed his retirement plans to take on caretaker Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul, 49.

This is the ex-banker's electoral debut.

Kuala Selangor incumbent member of parliament Dr Dzulkefly won the seat with a 8,498-vote majority against BN candidate Datuk Seri Irmohizam Ibrahim and Pas candidate Fakaruddin Ismail in the 14th General Election.

However, in 2013, the Rembau-born toxicologist lost in the same seat with a slim majority of 460 votes against Irmohizam.

This was despite his 2008 trump of BN candidate Datuk Jahaya Ibrahim with a 862-vote majority.

Other candidates for the Kuala Selangor seat are Ustaz Mohd Noor Mohd Sahar of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Mohd Shaid Rosli (Parti Pejuang Tanah Air).

Parti Rakyat Malaysia's reported candidate, R. Loganathan, was, however, a no-show.

Returning officer Rahilah Rahmat announced the nomination as closed at 10am.

The nomination process went smoothly.

All candidates brought along hundreds of supporters in tow.

It was hard to pick out BN from PN candidates as both coalitions used similar shades of blue as their official party colours.
