GE15: Reject PH's Tasek Gelugor candidate, urges PN's Wan Saiful

GEORGE TOWN: Perikatan Nasional's candidate for the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat, Datuk Wan Saifulruddin Wan Jan, has urged voters to maintain the coalition in the 15th general election (GE15).

According to him, voters should maintain PN in Tasek Gelugor so that the coalition could bring good policies to make Malaysia a caring, clean and stable country.

His comment came in the wake of Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's call for Penang PH to wrest the seat, along with Kepala Batas, in the coming elections.

The PKR president had said that securing the two constituencies would give PH 112 seats, the needed number to form a government.

Wan Saiful said: "Tasek Gelugor voters must ask themselves…are we in Tasek Gelugor willing to be held accountable if PKR and DAP control Putrajaya.

"What will we answer if we are asked who opened the space for these two parties to change the direction of the Malaysian administration?"

As such, Wan Saiful said the people of Tasek Gelugor needed to reject the PH candidate from Amanah, who was only a proxy for Anwar and DAP.

"We all know the true record of the DAP government in Penang and their true direction.

"Tasek Gelugor citizens have the right to have elected representatives who will serve Tasek Gelugor. Not a proxy or 'pak turut' who only wants to serve Anwar and DAP.

"The people of Tasek Gelugor deserve a transparent and the best government for our country. Do not allow those who control Penang today to seize Putrajaya after this," he added.

In his speech during the ceramah in Seberang Jaya yesterday, Anwar said that Penang, Selangor and Negri Sembilan were already PH strongholds and this time, the coalition was planning on expanding its influence to Perak.

"We are confident that we can win at least 112 parliamentary seats. In Penang, we have to take care of our strongholds. From Permatang Pauh and Bukit Mertajam, to Batu Kawan and Nibong Tebal, we have to make sure these seats remain ours.

"Now, two more seats that we have yet to secure are Kepala Batas and Tasek Gelugor, which we will wrest from our opponents so that we can form the government and I will be sworn in as prime minister on Nov 20," he said.

The Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat will see a five-cornered fight in GE15. The candidates are Warisan's Nik Abdul Razak Nik Md Ridzuan (Pakatan Harapan); Datuk Dr Abdul Halim Sher Jung (Gerakan Tanah Air); Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor (Barisan Nasional) and Wan Saiful.

The Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat is deemed to be one of the hot seats in the state as it was won by BN's Datuk Shabudin Yahaya with a 81 vote-majority in the last general election.

BN was reduced to one seat after Shabudin crossed over to Bersatu.
