GE15: We came to your aid, not PH, says Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today it was the PN government that looked for funds to help the people get through tough times during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"When the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government was in power, I had urged the finance minister at the time, DAP's Lim Guan Eng, to add to direct aid for the people. This was because the people were burdened with the rising cost of living apart from the rise in fuel prices.

"There were also aid packages that were cut which I requested to be reinstated.

"The answer that I got was that the government could not afford it because of financial issues and constraints. In the 2020 Budget that was tabled by the PH government, Lim Guan Eng had announced the provision of e-wallet worth RM30 which was just too little and too insignificant.

"When the PN government was formed on March 1, 2020, I was the one who instructed the finance minister to find any and every financial resource possible that could be used by the government so that it could be channeled directly to the rakyat," said Muhyiddin via a post uploaded to his Facebook account today.

Muhyiddin pointed out he was told that there were resources that could be used to help the people.

"Eventually, throughout the PN administration of 17 months, economic stimulus packages and aid for the people amounting to RM530 billion were implemented.

"Policies that could not be implemented by PH were eventually implemented by PN. Why? Because the Perikatan Nasional government is a concerned and caring government.

"This is our commitment for Malaysia, which is to form a government that is caring and concerned for the people, apart from being a clean and stable on at that. We go through good and bad times together," he said.
