Rafizi out of line for allegedly threatening MACC chief, says Hamzah

KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli was out of line for allegedly issuing a "threat" to Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Hamzah described Rafizi's remarks as "unnecessary", aimed at "scaring" certain top officials.

This came after Rafizi was quoted as saying during a recent ceramah that Pakatan Harapan would go after MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki for alleged "political persecution".

"The rakyat must be aware that political parties like PKR have nothing better to do than trying to instil fear in some top officials in the country," said Hamzah to the media on the sidelines of an event earlier today.

"Why should we even try to scare them? We have laws in this country," stressed Hamzah, adding that action would be taken against anyone who stepped out of line and broke the law.

"In my opinion, all enforcement agencies are doing the best that they can. It is unfair for us to pick on one and accuse them of doing something wrong," said the Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general.

Hamzah also dismissed Rafizi's claim that Pas was sceptical about PN forming the new government, when the latter highlighted that the Islamist party used it's own logo in the east coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu for the elections.

Hamzah clarified that this was merely a matter of strategy, not a lack of confidence, as he pointed out that Pas was using the PN logo in the northern state of Kedah which was under its control.

He reiterated that the Pas logo was used in the east coast states because voters were more familiar with it compared with the PN logo, which would take longer to gain traction and familiarity.
