Ismail Sabri says Zahid should listen to others

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi should listen to the views of the party leaders and the grassroots, who are currently urging him to step down.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Zahid should not turn a deaf ear to the mounting calls for him to do so.

"As president, he should listen to the views of others, including division heads. I hope he will consider this. Don't turn a deaf ear and ignore them," he said today.

Ismail Sabri said Zahid must think of the future of Umno.

"The president needs to think of the future of the party and not turn a blind eye to Umno division heads and youth."

Calls are mounting from Umno leaders and the grassroots for Zahid to step down, following Barisan Nasional's (BN) defeat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

The coalition only won 30 out of the 178 seats it contested.

In the 2018 general election, BN was unseated from the federal government for the first time in the country's history when it lost to Pakatan Harapan. Then president Datuk Seri Najib Razak stepped down from his post after that defeat.
