Pas congratulates Anwar, says it will deliberate on joining unity government

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas said it will deliberate on the offer extended to Perikatan Nasional (PN) to join the newly formed unity government.

The party's secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said it would need to discuss the matter with PN component parties before reaching a decision.

"We thank the prime minister for extending an offer to Perikatan Nasional (to join the unity government), and we will discuss the matter with our fellow component party members first and foremost.

"We will also consider our voters' views on the matter before weighing in on the offer," he said in a statement today, while congratulating Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's appointment as Malaysia's 10th prime minister.

Takiyuddin said he expressed gratitude to Allah for the recent leadership crisis that occurred after the 15th General Election, and resolved with Anwar's appoint to the country's top post.

He said the party was confident that Anwar would carry out his responsibilities well and in a fair manner, while prioritising the practice of federalism for all states and the people.

"We accept God's provision which carries its own wisdom (hikmah), with contentment and open heart.

"We also fully support Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on his wisdom in performing His Majesty's duty as provided by the law, particularly on the matter of Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's appointment as the 10th prime minister, in line with His Majesty's power provided under Articles 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution," he said.
