Unity government hopes to develop stronger relations with Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR: Closer ties are on the horizon between Pakatan Harapan and Gabungan Parti Sarawak after Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg paid a courtesy visit on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at his residence today.

Along with Abang Johari, Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail were also present at Anwar's residence in Sungai Long, Kajang, this morning.

Anwar, through a Facebook post today, said his unity government hoped to develop stronger relations with Sarawak as part of his plans to elevate Malaysia to greater heights.

"GPS will be one of the main pillars, besides BN, Warisan and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, that form the unity government led by me," he said.

Despite GPS' initial reluctance to work with PH, the coalition eventually came around after DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke and party chairman Lim Guan Eng apologised to the Sarawak government and its people for making statements that may have offended them.

On Friday, Anwar had said his unity government had reached a two-thirds majority in Dewan Rakyat after GRS decided to participate in his administration.
