Bring it on, Pas president tells BN and PH over their cooperation for Tioman polls

ROMPIN: Pas is not losing any sleep following the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional pact which is formed to defeat the Perikatan Nasional candidate in the Tioman state seat election on Dec 7.

Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said it proved that PN was strong and stood a good chance to secure victory in Tioman or else both the coalitions (BN and PH) would not have worked together.

"We (PN) are strong. Otherwise, they will not work together. We have no issues about it (cooperation). Just like in other constituencies, we will work hard to ensure victory in Tioman," he told reporters after a ceramah at Kuala Rompin town last night.

Yesterday, Amanah secretary-general Datuk Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli said BN and PH would join forces to ensure the BN's candidate Datuk Seri Mohd Johari Hussain's victory in the Tioman state election.

Amanah, which is part of PH, announced its decision to give way to BN in Tioman as a sign of cooperation for the unity government in Pahang and at the federal level.

Hatta said Amanah saw the contest in Tioman as a clash between the new Pahang government with a racial and religious extremist group.

Meanwhile, Hadi shot down claims labelling Pas as racist and extremist, saying the party was flexible with non-Muslims including with Gerakan which is part of the PN coalition and the formation of Pas's non-Muslim wing, Pas Supporters Congress.

"We will work together with everyone, Interestingly, MCA, MIC and parties in Sabah gave statutory declarations (SD) backing us (PN) to form the government recently, except for DAP," he said.

Tioman will see a five-cornered contest between Johari, Mohd Fadzli Mohd Ramly from PH, PN's Idayu Hashim, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's Osman Bakar and independent candidate Sulaiman Bakar.

Polling for the Tioman state seat in the 15th General Election was initially scheduled on Nov 19, but was postponed following the death of PN candidate Md Yunus Ramli.

He is believed to have died from a heart attack while receiving treatment at Rompin Hospital about 2.40am on Nov 19.
