GE15: Tioman, Padang Serai election results proof people don't trust BN-PH pact, says Muhyiddin [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional's performance in the Padang Serai and Tioman elections is proof that the people do not agree with the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional pact, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

The PN chairman said his coalition's big win in the Padang Serai parliamentary elections and narrow loss in the Tioman state seat polls was a positive sign of the people's strong support for PN.

During the 14th General Election (GE14), the seats were won by PH and BN respectively.

In the polls yesterday, PN extended its dominance in Kedah by wresting Padang Serai parliamentary seat from PH with a 16,260-vote majority.

BN, through Datuk Seri Johari Hussain, retained the Tioman state seat with only 573 votes ahead of PN's candidate Nor Idayu Hashim.

"I want to thank voters in Padang Serai and Tioman who have chosen PN.

"The results of both these elections show that the people are not excited about the combination of BN and PH.

"BN's majority in Tioman shrank by almost half and PN gained double the majority that was won by PH during GE14 in Padang Serai.

"This is proof that the people don't trust the PH-BN pact. They are not confident with the capabilities of the unity government headed by PH to lead the country," he said in a Facebook post this morning.

Muhyiddin claimed that the people, who were disappointed with the lies by PH and BN leaders while campaigning for GE15, had switched their votes for PN.

He added that to him, those lies were the "biggest electoral fraud" and Padang Serai and Tioman's polls results were a "clear sign" that the public do not approve of PH and BN's actions.

Muhyiddin congratulated PN's Padang Serai member of Parliament Datuk Azman Nasrudin, and advised their Tioman candidate Nor Idayu to continue her fight with PN.

"We are on the right track," he said.
