Three Umno members sacked for tarnishing party image

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has sacked three of its members for tarnishing the party's image during the 15th General Election campaign.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi said the trio comprised of  one division head and two Wanita division chiefs.

He said this was among the decisions made during the supreme council meeting tonight.

It was previously reported that Arau Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shamsiah Yasin and Maran Wanita Umno chief Datin Seri Fatimah Kassim were temporarily suspended for supporting candidates of an opposing party during GE15.

Puad said Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was stern about disciplinary issues that were happening within the party.

"He will no longer compromise with those who tarnish the party image and those who leak the discussion of the central working committee," he told reporters after the supreme council meeting at Menara Dato' Onn.

Meanwhile, he said Umno would leave the investigation on the allegation of the misappropriation of RM600 billion public funds to the prime minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim).

"From our side, we are firm that this matter has to be investigated, as we do not want those who claim they are clean but were otherwise.

"We hope this investigation will be done throughly," he said.

Earlier, Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin confirmed that another two VPs, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid would be absent for tonight's meeting.
