I will remain steadfast in my struggles for Umno; then, now and for always, says Hishammuddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein says he will remain steadfast in his struggle and fight for Umno so as not to disappoint its grassroots loyalists.

The former Umno vice-president said he had begun examining the results of the 15th General Election (GE15) for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat and Tioman state assembly seat to analyse the mood and sentiment of people, in particular the slant of their support.

"It is important to understand the dynamics of the support, especially in ensuring the party's longevity and future. Moreover, a lot of it depends on grassroots members who have been loyal to the party's struggles for so long, as well as the people's acceptance of BN.

"This must be given attention because I believe that in any struggle, we should never disappoint those who have been loyal to the party," he said on his official Facebook page today.

The Sembrong member of parliament said he did not want to point fingers or blame the party.

"I am someone who will fight and will continue to be steadfast for the sake of Umno — dulu, kini, selamanya (the, now and always)."

Post-GE15, Hishammuddin said he now has more time to contribute, as he is not in the cabinet, and sent his best wishes to BN members who are part of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's cabinet lineup.

He acknowledged that Anwar's unity government had an uphill battle ahead in handling and resolving various issues in the interests of the people and country.

"I pray that all efforts by those who had been given trust and responsibility for the task ahead will be eased," he said.
