Shahrir hurls brickbat at Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno veteran Tan Sri Shahrir Samad has fired a broadside at Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, urging him to focus on national issues instead of merely criticising the unity government of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Shahrir, in a Facebook posting, asked Muhyiddin if he regarded the post of opposition leader as being beneath him and if he thought of himself only worthy of the prime minister's role.

"He (Muhyiddin) should be the opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat, yet he doesn't want it.

"Are you only worthy of being the prime minister? Maybe he thinks Putrajaya is the 'best'. Just like during the 'Sheraton Move', when he became the prime minister.

"He became the PM without a general election and without the need for parliament."

Shahrir was referring to Muhyiddin's earlier statement, in which he claimed that Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional had committed "a massive election fraud" and that the new federal cabinet line-up was the "most disappointing in history."

Shahrir claimed Muhyiddin had said so following PN's massive loss in Johor during the 15th General Election.

"What a shame. So this is what it looks like when there are no more 'buttons' left to press in Johor. PN has only three assemblymen and two members of parliament in Johor.

"Forget about Johor. Focus on national issues."
