Perak PH, BN forms consultative committee

IPOH: Perak Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) have agreed to form a consultative committee to ensure and strengthen political stability in the state.

Perak PH chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa and his BN counterpart, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, in a joint statement today, said the formation of the committee reflected the commitment of both parties in upholding the order of Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

They said Sultan Nazrin recently called for political stability to always be nurtured to ensure economic prosperity for the well-being of the people.

"Following this, the committee held its first meeting yesterday , which was chaired by Saarani, who is also Perak Menteri Besar, and Mujahid.

"At the meeting, which was also attended by leaders of the state PH and BN component parties, both parties reached an agreement to make some other important decisions," read the statement.

Among the decisions made during the committee's first meeting, the statement said, was to ensure the state government remains stable to fully complete the term of administration by joining hands in upholding the Constitution and Bylaws of the State of Perak Darul Ridzuan.

"The committee also agreed to always place the people's welfare as priority through instilling the values of unity among the people under Saarani's leadership and his administrative team.

"Prospering the state with economic activities and generating state income through government administration practices that are clean, transparent, fair and accountable to all citizens regardless of racial and religious boundaries.

"We will also strengthen and utilise media channels on all platforms more effectively to convey information to the people of Perak in particular and Malaysians in general about the policies and achievements of the state government.

"Both parties also agree to maintain harmonious relations between parties at all levels to make the state administration successful and smooth at the grassroots level," the statement read.

On Nov 21, Sultan Nazrin consented to the formation of a coalition government between PH and BN in the state.

In the 15th General Election, Perikatan Nasional won 26 seats, PH won 24 seats and BN took nine seats out of the 59-seat state assembly.

A total of 30 seats are required for a simple majority to form the Perak government.
