State election to take place after Aidilfitri hints Selangor MB

KUANTAN: Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari hinted that the state election in Selangor would likely take place after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Therefore, the Selangor Menteri Besar said the Selangor State Legislative Assembly would not be dissolved anytime soon to pave the way for state polls.

"We are discussing. God willing, we will decide later. So far I can imagine not (anytime) in the near future.

"This means after Raya (Aidil Fitri). Before Raya there will be no dissolution in Selangor," he said.

Amiruddin was speaking to reporters after the Bilateral Meeting between the Pahang and Selangor state governments at Wisma Sri Pahang, here today.

Also present was Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

Previously, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar informed that they would discuss with Penang, Negri Sembilan and Selangor to set the date for state polls to be held simultaneously in the three states led by Pas.

The Pas vice-president said that informal discussions between chief ministers and menteri besar from the three states involved had already been held at the end of last year, but the decision on the state polls date had not been finalised.

Recently, Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun voiced the state's readiness to hold an official meeting with menteris besar in the three Pas-governed states to discuss and set a common date for state polls.

Only Perlis, Pahang and Perak had dissolved their state assemblies to hold state elections concurrently with the 15th General Election on Nov 19 last year.

Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu have not seen their respective state assemblies dissolved yet.

The six states involved are three states led by Pakatan Harapan (PH) — Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang — and three states administered by Pas, namely Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah.
