All eyes on Umno supreme council

KUALA LUMPUR: All eyes are trained on the Umno supreme council meeting tonight which is expected to make several major decisions, including the fate of several prominent party leaders.

Several Umno leaders were spotted arriving at the party's headquarters in Menara Dato' Onn here since 7.30pm.

Among them were Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, party information chief Isham Jalil and supreme council member Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

Other party leaders seen arriving the party's headquarters were Federal Territories Umno Liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, his counterpart from Perak (Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad), Pahang (Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail), Terengganu (Datuk Seri Ahmad Said) and Sabah (Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin).

Also seen making his way into the party headquarters was Tanjong Karang Umno division chief Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday the supreme council meeting will likely see the carrying out of large-scale cleansing, which indirectly signaled that some leaders will be sacked or suspended from the party.

The fate of former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is also expected to be known tonight after he accused the recently concluded party's general assembly was marred with dirty tactics.

Also on the chopping block is Noh.

Noh previously confirmed with a Malay daily that he and four party leaders in the Tanjong Karang division, including his daughter, Nurul Syazwani, received a notice to appear before the Umno Disciplinary Board.

His daughter is a Tanjong Karang Puteri Umno committee member.

Apart from him and his daughter, other leaders who received the notice were Tanjong Karang Umno division secretary Jasman Anuar and Tanjong Karang Umno Puteri chief Salbiah Saari.

Also receiving the notice was Noh's younger brother, Yusop, who is also a committee member at the division.
