Hishammuddin says Umno suspension 'merely a new beginning'

KUALA LUMPUR: Sembrong member of parliament Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said he will meet with the Sembrong Umno division top leaders to discuss and decide on the next course of action after he was suspended from the party for six years.

"The party's Supreme Council has decided to suspend my membership for six years. I will meet the top leadership in Sembrong Umno to decide on the future direction and the next course of action," the former defence minister said in a short clip posted on his Instagram account.

He was among several party leaders who were slapped with suspension order by the party for allegedly committing several offences that violated the party's constitution during and after the 15th General Election (GE15).

Hishammuddin, who appeared calm, in the clip said the disciplinary action slapped against him would not break his spirit to continue to fight for the people and the country.

"What has happened will never break my spirit and I will to continue to fight for the religion, the people and the nation.

"This is not the end, this is merely the beginning... a new beginning," he said.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan in a statement last night announced that the party's supreme council has decided to sack former Rembau member of parliament Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor Umno liaison committee committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Ahmad also announced the decision by the council to suspend several leaders for six years including Hishammuddin and former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan.
