Umno is not a 'Yes Man' in the Unity Government - Umno Vice President

JOHOR BARU: There is no issue of Umno being a 'Yes Men' in the Unity Government, instead all decisions made are adopted unanimously after going through a discussion process.

Umno Vice President Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Umno is aware that it is not the party that won the majority in the 15th General Election, so it cannot make a decision according to its own wishes.

"Now it is a coalition government, so of course anything (that needs) to be achieved depends on discussion and is of mutual agreement.

"It is different if we win the election with a majority. Then we can do as we like, but the fact is we are not a party that won a lot (of seats), we are only one of the parties that form the government.

"But, if you say that we are (all) the same, that is not true at all because all decisions made by the government are as a result of a joint discussion," he said.

He said this at a press conference after inaugurating the Tasek 64 Community Sewing Centre in Bandar Seri Alam here today.

Khaled, who is the Higher Education Minister, was responding to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's claim that Umno has now become a 'Yes Man' in the government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said Ismail Sabri can express whatever his views are, but it should be done through party channels and not through the media.

"If we want to answer all his allegations, we can answer them, but I think the media is not the place (proper channel)," he said.

Previously, Ismail Sabri revealed that when he became Prime Minister, the Umno leadership pressured him as if he was not the Prime Minister from Umno.

The Bera member of Parliament also claimed that Umno approves the policies implemented by the Unity Government despite the fact that the policies are not suitable to be implemented.
