KUALA LUMPUR: Former TV3 newscaster Nik Suryani Megat Deraman has announced her intention to contest the Wanita Umno exco post in the party's upcoming election.
Nik Suryani, who is Marang Umno division and Kubang Kepong Umno branch member, said she submitted her nomination form at the party's headquarters at Menara Dato' Onn here at 4.30pm on Monday.
She said she wished to capitalise on her 20 years of experience as a media practitioner in the creative industry to contribute to the development of the party.
"With blessings from my father, husband as well as the (Marang Umno) division chief, I would like to offer myself as a candidate to contest the Wanita Umno exco post in this party election.
"I have been an Umno member since 2012.
"I am offering myself as a candidate in the party election with the hopes that I can contribute and continue the struggles championed by the Wanita movement since the country gained her independence."
Nik Suryani added that she hoped her contribution could help Umno move forward and remain relevant as the main political outfit of choice to defend the welfare and wellbeing of the people, religion and the country.
