Wan Saiful: Unity govt targetting PN leaders to destroy check and balance

GEORGE TOWN: Tasek Gelugor member of parliament Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has lashed out at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administration for "targetting" Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders.

Wan Saiful said, having gone after Tan Sri Muhyiddin YassinTan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang from Pas.

"The sole purpose is to cripple PN so that they can destroy check and balance in this country.

"Hadi is investigated because of his comments on change of government. There is nothing wrong with the statement. In our Westminster democracy, government can be changed at any time," he said in his latest Facebook posting.

Earlier today, Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai said investigations against the Pas president, on his claims that PN was attempting to topple the government, would be conducted by the federal police Classified Crime Investigation Unit.

This followed reports lodged by Parti Amanah Negara and Selangor PKR youth at the Dang Wangi police headquarters yesterday in connection with Hadi's statement that PN and the opposition block were making plans to topple Anwar's unity government.

Hadi had told reporters in Parliament on Monday that based on Malaysia's democratic system, no one had the right to stop PN's efforts to topple the government of the day, and such an attempt could be done either through a vote of no-confidence or via statutory declarations.

Wan Saiful was charged last month with graft-related offences in connection with the Jana Wibawa programme which was initiated by the government during Muhyiddin's administration.
