PN confident of taking Selangor in state polls - Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin revealed that if the coalition wins the upcoming state polls in Selangor, a Bersatu candidate would be appointed as the Menteri Besar.

He expressed his confidence in winning, citing PN Information Chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali's rough seat allocation calculations as the basis for his optimism.

"In PN's negotiations, it was confirmed that Bersatu will take on the Menteri Besar post should we win Selangor and Negri Sembilan," Muhyiddin said.

"We put our trust in Bersatu vice president Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Jidin as the coordinator and Azmin as well as Selangor Bersatu chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, and with the right strategies and calculations, we can form the state government in Selangor.

"We will leave Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu to Pas where we are confident that we would be able to make a clean sweep.

"Bersatu will contest a certain number of seats (in Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu) by cooperating with Pas ," he told reporters after Bersatu's annual general meeting here today.

Muhyiddin added that if PN wins Penang, the party would decide which party would hold the chief minister position based on the number of seats won.

"PN is confident of winning, as we have data on respective state legislative assemblies."

He also said that Bersatu's accounts were currently frozen but the party could maintain the same or a reasonable number of candidates in the state elections.

On another matter, Muhyiddin said that he would decide on Parti Pejuang Tanah Air's request to join PN as a component party after their scheduled meeting with the PN supreme council.
