Umno polls: Khaled Nordin defends Umno VP post

KUALA LUMPUR: Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has defended his position as the Umno vice-president for another term.

According to the official tally during the on-going Umno election, Khaled, who is also the Johor Umno liaison committee chairman, has obtained votes from 72 party divisions.

Khaled, who is also the Kota Tinggi member of parliament, is the second candidate in the Umno vice-presidential race to secure his position for the post.

The first candidate in the Umno vice-presidential race to secure his position for the post is Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

As of 11.30pm, Wan Rosdy, who is also the Pahang Umno liaison committee chairman, has secured votes from 76 divisions.

Federal Territories Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani is poised to secure his position as one of the three Umno vice-president posts.

The Titiwangsa MP has so far gained votes from 60 divisions.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who is the sole woman candidate in the Umno vice-presidential race, is currently in fourth place.

Azalina, who is the Pengerang MP, obtained votes from 38 divisions.
