KANGAR: Former Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man has lost his Kangar division chief post in the party election yesterday, four months after losing the state to Perikatan Nasional in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Azlan, who is also the state Umno liaison committee chairman, was defeated in a straight fight by his deputy in the division, Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya.
Fathul Bari won by a huge majority of 189 votes after pulling 368 votes, defeating Azlan who garnered 179 votes, ending his two-term helm at the post since 2014.
The division's deputy chief post was won by Hamunir Hamzah, who defeated incumbent Hamizan Hassan and another candidate, Zainuddin Osman, in a three-cornered battle.
Meanwhile, Kamarudin Malek won the vice chief post after edging Harmizan Abd Halim, Abu Bakar Sadiqin Hazim, and Che' Omar @ Umak Bahari in a four-cornered fight.
