Umno can take action against me - Jailani

MELAKA: Rembia assemblyman Datuk Jailani Khamis is prepared to face any consequences from his party, Umno, following his stance on the newly-appointed Melaka chief minister.

The former Alor Gajah Umno information chief said that he refused to be a "yes man" (pak turut) on matters that he viewed as wrong and unreasonable.

"I am only speaking the truth and taking into account the personality and behaviour of the leader that is being brought forward.

"As leaders, when we make promises, we must fulfil them, especially to the people.

"If central or state Umno wants to take action against me because of this, go ahead," he said when contacted.

Jailani said with the appointment of Tanjung Bidara assemblyman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh as Melaka Chief Minister yesterday to replace Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali who resigned from the post, the party had officially violated an important manifesto during the Melaka State Election 2021.

"All parties have a manifesto during the election. For Umno/Barisan Nasional (BN) in the Melaka 2021 PRN, the manifesto for Chief Minister until the end of the term is Sulaiman.

"The manifesto is a promise to the people, especially Melaka, and as a Muslim, it must be implemented.

"So I want to inform the people of Melaka that I do not support, participate in, or even oppose this matter (the appointment of the Chief Minister)," he said.

Jailani, also the former Exco of Tourism, Heritage, and Culture of the state described what took place was done to humiliate Sulaiman personally and he could not accept it.

"It is certain that this humiliates and shames Sulaiman personally, even worse it is done during Ramadan.

"Sulaiman's tears alone are enough to say everything, not to mention those who are involved in this crisis, either those who defend or want to change their position," he said.

He said stability is not an issue because Melaka was a stable state, claiming that what had taken place was caused by greedy individuals who did not want any obstacles in pursuing their ambitions.
