UN, OIC must intervene over attacks on Muslims in India

WE urge the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to immediately intervene over the current development in India concerning attacks on Muslims to ensure the situation will not deteriorate further.

Although there seems to be a slight and mild action by the Indian government to arrest some leaders from the Hindu nationalist organisation, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the sentiment of hatred against Muslims exists.

From our point of view, India seems to be repeating the history of Muslim abolition in Spain in 1612. Unfortunately, at that time, the Islamic empire of several continents failed to help defend Islam in Spain.

Now the hardline oppressive and discriminatory policies and laws are being targeted towards Muslims such as the Citizenship Amendment Act, Citizenship Registration in Assam, prohibition law of slaughtering cattle, the prohibition of wearing hijab and prohibition of Friday prayers in certain locations.

These are the issues that should have a firm response from Muslim leaders around the world.

We urge the Muslim community to rise and express strong protest in regards to the situation in India, which is unacceptable.

We also urge the government of Malaysia to demand the Indian government stop the ongoing violence and to prosecute those involved.

At the same time, we hope the OIC will take a decisive step to pressure India to ensure these acts can be stopped. Political and economic pressure should be imposed on India if the situation gets worse.

We urge Pakistani, Indonesian, Turkish and Qatari Islamic leaders to give serious attention to the development of oppressed Muslims in India.

Lastly, we are ready to mobilise international campaigns to save and defend the rights of Muslims in India.
