NST Leader: From Israel to Greater Israel

It has been a week or so of May Days for the Palestinians during this Ramadan, the holiest month in Islam. One Israeli bombardment after another is turning the Gaza Strip into a war zone. Media reports say Gaza has not seen such intense airstrikes since 2014.

According to Al Jazeera, 35 Palestinians, including 10 children, were killed up to Tuesday in the Israeli bombardments. The Israeli armed forces do not discriminate between civilians and those who are rising up against them. The airstrike on the Gaza residential tower is clearly a wilful act.

The Zionist regime of Israel has no respect for Islam nor the Palestinians. Do not blame the Palestinians as the Zionists and their Western allies do. Palestinians' land is being stolen from them every day by state-sponsored thievery. The latest is in Sheikh Jarrah, a small neighbourhood in East Jerusalem.

There, the Zionist regime is attempting to evict eight Palestinian families out of their land to let Jews occupy it. It is there that the now-infamous line was uttered by an illegal American Jewish settler to a question by a Palestinian woman as to why he was stealing her land: "If I don't steal it, someone else will."

His audacity is the mark of the Zionist regime's state-sponsored land grab. For the last week or so, the Palestinans have been trying to stop the illegal Jewish settlers from evicting the families, reports Reuters. The standoff turned violent when the Israeli police started using disproportionate force on the Palestinians.

Then, on Monday, there was the storming of the Al Aqsa, the third holiest mosque for Muslims. It was then the Palestinian resistance movement launched the rocket fire. What else can they do when everything they value — Islam, dignity, lives and land — are taken away from them. Even during the holy month of Ramadan. And on the eve of Aidilfitri, too.

The Zionists are still crazy after all these years. Just consider what is stacked up against the Palestinians. The Zionist regime and weapons paid for by America's US$3.8 billion annual gift. Brutalities of Israel's police and soldiers.

The kangaroo courts of Israel that aren't interested in justice. Not to mention the West which sponsored the stealthy Zionist regime into existence. The Zionists say the Palestinians have no right to rise up and fight for what is theirs. Is living on their land a crime? Is resisting evictions a crime? Is observing the Ramadan a crime?

What is a crime, though, is the "despicable attacks on the Palestinians", to quote Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who issued a statement on Tuesday strongly condemning the Israeli attacks. A stain on the face of humanity, he said of the Zionist regime's inhumane attacks. We could not have put it better.

The Arab League too didn't mince its words. It will hold Israel "fully responsible for whatever follows due to its crimes, which constitute glaring violations of United Nations decrees, international law and human rights law", Reuters quoted its foreign ministers as saying.

Predictably, the White House condemned the attacks on Israel and said Israel had a right to defend itself. So did the European Union. Now, who needs defending? A fully armed, brutal rogue state or persecuted Palestinians? The answer is obvious. But not to those who have sold their souls to the Zionist cause.
