What's more vital — riders' safety or prompt food delivery?

LETTERS: Employers, especially those in the food delivery service, should pay close attention to their employees' safety.

The Alliance for Safe Community calls on employers and companies to adopt ISO39001, a global standard for road traffic safety management.

The system symbolises the commitment of companies to managing road traffic safety for their employees.

Road traffic safety management should be the responsibility of employers or organisations. It should not be left to employees alone.

ISO39001 is a global standard that sets minimum requirements for road traffic safety management system to prevent and reduce the risk of road-related deaths and serious injuries.

Companies that opt for ISO39001 can be certified by any certification body that provides training for road safety management.

Many food delivery riders violate traffic rules as their employers demand that the food is delivered as fast as possible.

Riders also claim that customers insist that the food be delivered quickly. Many riders race against time to get a good rating.

These reasons are untenable and unacceptable.

While we realise the importance for the food to be delivered on time, the safety of riders supersedes all else.

It is better for the food to be delivered a little late as long as the riders' safety is ensured.

If riders are involved in accidents, customers will not get their food. It is important for employers and customers to agree that riders' safety is of paramount importance.

If companies can make a commitment to road traffic safety management and get certified, it will send a message to society that the safety of employees is a priority.
