Flying flags at half-mast should be uniform

LETTERS: As a mark of respect and sorrow for Queen Elizabeth II, who died this month, flags were flown at half-mast on different dates in different states here.

In Pahang, it was on Sept 10, and in Penang, Sept 19.

Selangor and Perak flew the flags for three days from Sept 17, while flags were flown for two days from Sept 12 in Kuching.

This disjointed show of respect and sorrow sends the image that we are not cohesive and divided into smaller jurisdictions for us to grieve on different days for different periods.

This was pointed out to me by a foreigner.

In future, for the sake of uniformity, all states should adhere to a single order to fly their flags at half-mast.
