Do-or-die for Aaron-Wooi Yik

It's all down to the wire in Group D of the men's doubles in Tokyo following Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik's 21-16, 21-19 defeat to Indonesia's Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan in their second group tie yesterday.

The Malaysians conceded that they were outclassed again during their eighth meeting against the World No 2.

"It's definitely frustrating as despite playing Ahsan-Hendra so many times, we still can't score an upset," said Aaron yesterday.

"Every time we play the Indonesians, we pressure ourselves and make the same mistakes by playing into their game."

Wooi Yik said: "I don't think we played badly. We even led 11-6 in the second game, but they still managed to come back.

"They played better quality shots, and they lured us into playing their game."

Aaron-Wooi Yik are expected to beat Canada's Jason Anthony Ho-Shue-Nyl Yakura in their final group match today.

However, Aaron-Wooi Yik need a favour from Ahsan-Hendra, who must beat South Korea's Choi Solgyu-Seo Seung Jae in the other encounter for the Malaysians to qualify for the quarter-finals.

"It was not our best performance (against Ahsan-Hendra), but there's another match for us tomorrow.

"We need to give our very best tomorrow."

In mixed doubles, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying's third Olympic outing came to an end with a third straight defeat.

After losing to Hong Kong's Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet and Germany's Mark Lamfuss-Isabel Herttrich in the opening two matches, Peng Soon-Liu Ying ended their Group D campaign with a 21-13, 21-19 defeat to China's Wang Yi Lyu-Huang Dong Ping at the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza.
