KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesian badminton legend Rexy Mainaky is coming home to Malaysia again.
The BA of Malaysia (BAM) on Monday confirmed that the 53-year-old will report for duty as deputy coaching director on Dec 1.
Former international Wong Choong Hann has been the national coaching director since 2018.
For the record, Rexy, who holds a permanent resident (PR) status here since 2007, was BAM's doubles coach from 2005-2012.
In a statement released by BAM, it was noted that Rexy will be attached to the doubles departments.
"We're delighted that Rexy will be joining the coaching team.
"This appointment is integral in reinforcing the progress that the association has made in the last few years," said BAM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria.
Just a day earlier, it was reported that the 1996 Olympic Games gold medallist did not extend his contract as national coaching director with the BA of Thailand (BAT), which ended this month.
