Kian Meng-Pei Jin roll into semis

Independent mixed doubles Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing are on track for their first title of the season after charging into the semi-finals of the India Open.

The world No 10 proved their strength as they whipped Russia's Konstantin Abramov-Anastasiia Akchurina 21-10, 21-14 in the quarter-finals in New Delhi yesterday.

It was a confident performance from the pair, who left the national set-up last year, as they are yet to drop a game in the competition.

The top seeds will certainly be eager to nail their first title since the Malaysian Masters in 2017.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing will, however, need to be on their toes as they go up against compatriots Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei in the last four today.

World No 40 Tang Jie-Yen Wei were also in fine form as they powered to a 21-10, 21-13 win over India's eighth seeds Venkat Gaurav Prasad-Juhi Dewangan in the quarter-finals.

The pair will also be eager to impress as they seek to reach their first final at the Super 500 level.

It was, however, the end of the road for the experimental senior-junior combination of Chan Peng Soon and Valeree Siow.

Peng Soon-Valeree showed that they are still a work in progress as they fell to a 21-14, 21-3 defeat to Russia's second seeds Rodion Alimov-Alina Davletova.

The Russians meet Singapore's Terry Hee-Tan Wei Han in the semi-finals.

In Europe, backup men's singles shuttlers Ong Ken Yon, Kok Jing Hong and Lee Shun Yang showed promise after qualifying for the main draw of the Estonian International.

All three had to overcome three rounds of qualifying before earning their spots in the main draw on Thursday.

Five others, Tan Jun Yi, Tan Ming Kang, Teh Jin Hong, Tan Jia Jie and Shahyar Shaqeem, however, failed to make the grade as they lost in the qualifiers.
