BAM lift ban on Zii Jia and Jin Wei

KUALA LUMPUR: It is official. Both Lee Zii Jia and Goh Jin Wei are now free to play independently and not under BAM.

This was announced by BAM today, putting an end to the contentious issue which was sparked by Zii Jia's resignation from BAM with the intention of turning professional earlier this month.

In response, BAM banned

Zii Jia for two years. Jin Wei, who announced her retirement in September before changing her mind last month, was also suspended for two years from all international tournaments.

But this led to many fans accusing BAM of being vindictive and trying to kill the careers of two of the country's brightest prospects.

In a statement today, BAM announced that both Zii Jia and Jin Wei are free to compete in international events with immediate effect.

"The association took into consideration the appeals made by both players as per official procedures before reaching the decision to release them from their respective contracts with BAM according to mutually agreed terms and conditions," said BAM.

"This decision was also conveyed to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and the Patron of BAM, Datin Seri Muhaini Zainal Abidin by our president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria today.

"BAM would also like to record sincere appreciation to the prime minister and the patron for their interest in the matter as well as their concerns."

The BAM decision means Zii Jia is almost certain to suit up for Malaysia for the Asian Team Championships in Shah Alam from Feb 15-20.
