Justin gears up for greatness

National Under-21 boys' singles champion Justin Hoh is unfazed by the gruelling schedule in Europe as he aims to win his first senior title.

The 18-year-old will play in two Future Series meets later this month — Bonn International in Germany (June 15-18) and Croatia Open (June 20-23).

He will also play in the men's doubles in both competitions with V. Poopathi.

It will be an energy-sapping schedule for Justin as he has to negotiate three qualifying rounds in each tournament before the main draw.

Justin is confident fitness will not be an issue based on how he had fared in last week's national Under-21 meet in Kuantan.

Justin played 10 matches in five days, six of those that saw him winning his maiden national-level singles title.

With Eogene Ewe, he also reached the semi-finals of the doubles event.

"I want to aim higher after claiming my first Under-21 title. I want to prove myself in Germany and Croatia," said Justin.

"My best outing in a senior tournament was the last-16 of the Austria Open last year. I know I can do way better than that.

"I will be playing in two events, but my main goal is still the men's singles.

"It will be hectic, but I am up for the challenge.

"If you one to be a champion, you cannot make excuses.

"I am always ready to play as many matches as it will help me gain more experience.

The tournaments in Europe will be a crucial part of Justin's preparations for the World Junior Championships (WJC) in Spain from Oct 17-30.

"Winning the national Under-21 is a good start for me.

"If I can add a couple more international victories in the coming months, then it will do my confidence a whole world of good for the WJC," he said.

"This is my only chance to become a world junior champion, and I don't want to miss it."

The two previous WJCs were cancelled due to Covid-19.
