Zii Jia takes his revenge in Jakarta

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's World No 5 Lee Zii Jia stamped his class to storm into the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open today.

The reigning Asian champion ousted India's Sameer Verma 21-10, 21-13 in 41 minutes at the Istora Senayan Stadium in Jakarta, exacting revenge on the world No 30 whom he lost to at the Thailand Open last year.

In that match, Zii Jia had squandered a huge 18-10 lead in the second game and failed to convert seven match points before losing 18-21, 27-25, 21-19.

In the mixed doubles, Malaysia's Hoo Pang Ron-Toh Ee Wei continued their fine start to their newly formed partnership by reaching the last eight of a Super 1000 event.

After stunning world No 16 Yuki Kaneko-Misaki Matsutomo of Japan, Pang Ron-Ee Wei, who were playing in their second tournament together, defeated world No 14 compatriots Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie 21-19, 21-19.
