Danish duo to battle strong drift and rivals at Axiata Arena

DANISH doubles duo Kim Astrup-Anders Rasmussen are looking to turn the tables on Choi Sol Gyu-Kim Won Ho of South Korea at the Malaysia Open this week but will first have to beat the drift at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

The world No 9 were edged by the Korean pair 13-21, 21-12, 21-18 in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open last week.

The two pairs will face off again in the opening round of the Malaysia Masters men's doubles event on Tuesday.

Rasmussen is optimistic they will have the upper hand this time.

"We are expecting another tough match against them," said Rasmussen yesterday.

"Our stats show that we always improve after each match against any pair.

"We feel it is in our favour now and have a good feeling.

"Of course they had a fantastic tournament last week, but so did we. It will be a good match from the start, we will see how it goes."

Astrup-Rasmussen, who are seeded eighth, are, however, slightly concerned with the strong drift in the Axiata Arena.

"We were a bit surprised about the (shuttle) drift in here (Axiata Arena). Maybe, it will change a bit when the setup is 100 per cent (complete)," said Rasmussen.

"Perhaps when the doors are closed, and the spectators are in (it will be better). (Today) it was pretty difficult on the two courts we tried."

"The lighting and setup here are nice, but as Anders mentioned the drift will make it difficult," added Astrup.

"But this is normal in big arenas, especially with the air conditioning. I am looking forward to competing here."

Astrup added that they are looking to build on their current strong form. The pair had also reached the semi-finals of the Thailand Open last month.
